Alaska cruise day: Sea-Tac to the pier

The cruise starts at the pier. The planning starts at the airport — and a little of it goes a long way.
Most Alaska cruises from Seattle sail between late spring and early autumn, and on a busy Saturday several ships can be turning around at once. Thousands of passengers are flying in, collecting luggage and heading to the waterfront on the same morning. A little planning keeps you out of the crush.
Check which pier
Seattle has two cruise terminals. Pier 66 (Bell Street Cruise Terminal) is on the downtown waterfront; Pier 91 (Smith Cove Cruise Terminal) is a few miles north-west, near Magnolia. Your cruise documents name the terminal — share it with your driver, because they are not interchangeable.
Fly in the day before if you can
A delayed flight on sailing day is the one problem no transfer can fix. Many passengers arrive the day before, spend a night downtown, and take a short hotel-to-pier ride on the morning of sailing. We can do both legs: Sea-Tac to the hotel and the hotel to the pier.
Same-day flights
- Choose the earliest flight that works, and leave a generous margin before the ship’s all-aboard time.
- Give us the flight number so the pickup follows the actual landing.
- Pack a carry-on with medications, documents and a change of clothes — checked bags go to porters at the pier and reach your cabin later.
After the cruise
Disembarkation mornings are busy and early. Book the return ride with the outbound one: we meet you at the terminal and drive to SEA, timed around your flight. Allow at least a few hours between the ship arriving and your flight departing.
Two piers, one airport, and a morning that goes much better with the car already booked.
Luggage on cruise day
Cruise luggage is bigger than most people expect: two large suitcases per couple plus carry-ons is typical for a seven-night Alaska cruise with layers for the weather. That usually fits a sedan; with three or more passengers, or formal-night garment bags, choose a luxury SUV. Label every checked bag with the cruise line’s tags before you arrive at the pier — porters take them straight from the car.
What the day looks like
- Land at SEA and collect your bags (allow 30–45 minutes).
- Your driver meets you and loads the luggage.
- Drive to the terminal: roughly 25–40 minutes to Pier 66, 30–50 minutes to Pier 91.
- Porters take the checked bags at the drop-off; you go to check-in with your carry-on and documents.
Staying in Seattle after the cruise
If you are not flying home the same day, the ride from the pier can go to a hotel instead. Downtown, the waterfront and Queen Anne are all short drives from both terminals. Ask us to combine the transfer with a few hours by the hour if you want to see Pike Place or the Space Needle before heading to the airport.
Frequently asked
Can we book for a group travelling on the same ship? Yes — larger groups can travel in two cars leaving together. Do you wait if disembarkation runs late? Yes; send your ship and expected time off, and we plan around the ship, not a fixed minute.
