Red-eye and late arrivals at Sea-Tac

After midnight, or at six in the morning after a red-eye, the airport feels different — and so does the ride home.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals are when ground transportation is least predictable. App-based cars can be scarce, the taxi rank may be short of cars, and after a red-eye very few people want to stand anywhere waiting.
Late at night
The last banks of arrivals land between roughly 10 pm and 1 am. Delays compound through the evening, so a 11:30 arrival can easily become 12:40. A car that follows the flight simply adjusts; you walk out to it whenever you land. If you would rather not navigate at that hour, meet & greet puts your driver at baggage claim.
After a red-eye
Overnight flights from the East Coast and Hawaii arrive early in the morning, straight into the start of the rush hour. That matters for the drive: an Eastside ride that takes 40 minutes at 5:30 can take over an hour at 7:30. Your driver plans the route for the time you actually land.
Small things that help
- Book the car when you book the flight — late-night availability is the first to go.
- Give us the flight number, not just a time; we follow it.
- Tell us about sleeping children and car seats so everything is ready — see families & car seats.
- If a hotel is not open for check-in yet after a red-eye, ask your driver about a coffee stop on the way.
At midnight, the most valuable thing a car can be is already there.
What is open at night
Sea-Tac never fully closes, but after midnight most shops and restaurants in the terminal are shut and the building is quiet. Baggage claim keeps working for the late arrivals, and ground transportation keeps running — though with fewer vehicles circulating. A booked car removes the uncertainty of what will be available when you walk out.
Getting into your hotel
If you land at 5:30 am, most hotels will not have a room until the afternoon. Many will store luggage and some offer early check-in for a fee — call ahead. Otherwise, ask your driver to take you somewhere for breakfast first, or book the car by the hour and use the morning.
Staying safe and comfortable
- Keep your phone charged for the driver’s message — a power bank in your carry-on helps.
- Share your booking details with whoever is expecting you.
- If you are travelling alone late at night, meet & greet means you never have to wait outside.
Booking a late pickup
Send the flight number, the address and the number of bags. Late-night and early-morning pickups are confirmed on request like any other — see estimated prices for what to expect.
