First visit

Downtown, Capitol Hill, or Bellevue?

A simple way to pick the first stop after Sea-Tac when Seattle is still new to you.

These destinations are not substitutes for one another. They each make a different kind of first arrival: closer to a central hotel, closer to a neighbourhood meal, or closer to an Eastside office. The airport car does not choose for you; it makes the chosen route uncomplicated.

Downtown for a central first night

Downtown is a natural first stop when the hotel, convention, waterfront plans, or a compact introduction to the city are all nearby. It is the straightforward option for a short visit with a lot on the itinerary. From SEA it is 25–35 minutes and roughly $75–95.

Capitol Hill for the neighbourhood feel

Capitol Hill suits an arrival centred around independent restaurants, a livelier evening, or a stay that feels more residential. It can be the right first address when the itinerary is less about landmarks and more about the texture of the city. Allow 30–40 minutes from the airport; the fare is roughly $82–100.

Bellevue for Eastside plans

If the meetings, family, or accommodation are on the Eastside, crossing there directly from the airport keeps the trip focused. There is no need to turn a Seattle arrival into an unnecessary detour. It is 35–50 minutes via I-405 and roughly $88–110.

Choose the first address for the day you want tomorrow to be, not only for the map pin closest to the airport.

Other good first addresses

Queen Anne suits a quieter stay near Seattle Center; Ballard and Fremont give you a neighbourhood with its own restaurants and waterfront; Kirkland is the Eastside choice for a lakeside stay. All of them are covered on our estimated prices page, with the drive time from SEA.

Getting around after the first night

Downtown and Capitol Hill are walkable and well served by light rail; Bellevue’s downtown is compact but the wider Eastside is spread out. If your plans cross the lake more than once a day, a car by the hour can save a lot of waiting.
